UEFA confirms Rubin Kazan to get Europa League place

MOSCOW -- UEFA has confirmed that Rubin Kazan will replace fellow Russian club Dinamo Moscow in the Europa League after the latter broke financial fair play rules.

Dinamo were handed a one-year ban from European competition by UEFA last month after an investigation into overspending and now plan major budget cuts.

UEFA confirmed Thursday to The Associated Press that Dinamo's place will go to Rubin, who will start play in the third qualifying round of the Europa League on July 30.

Rubin, who have twice won the Russian title, finished fifth in the Russian Premier League last season, one place behind Dinamo.
