UEFA orders Anderlecht to repay Bayern fans for high ticket prices

Bayern Munich fans protested the high ticket prices at the Champions League game in November.

UEFA has ordered Anderlecht to compensate Bayern Munich fans in a Champions League price gouging case.

Anderlecht must pay back €30 to each visiting fan who was charged €100 to watch a group-stage game in November.

UEFA said the Belgian champions had 15 days to contact Bayern and arrange the payments. Bayern were previously fined €20,000 by UEFA for protests at the game in Brussels.

Fans threw fake €100 bills toward the pitch and held up banners in German and English that read, "Is your greed now finally satisfied?"

In December, Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes backed the protests by saying that ticket prices were "crazy."

"The fans cannot afford this," Heynckes said. "It is practically an invitation to stay at home. It is not OK.

"We need to keep prices moderate for football fans. We need the fans. Games without atmosphere are bad for football."

English clubs, including Manchester United, have also notified UEFA this season about their visiting fans being charged much higher prices than the ones paid by home supporters.

ESPN FC Germany correspondent Stephan Uersfeld contributed to this report.
