Source: Chile approach U.S. youth Soto over switch

Herculez Gomez and Shaka Hislop weigh the pros and cons of CONCACAF's qualifying format for the 2022 World Cup, which emphasizes the FIFA rankings.

U.S. youth international and Hannover 96 forward Sebastian Soto has been contacted by Chile manager Reinaldo Rueda, with an eye towards the striker playing for La Roja, according to a source with knowledge of the approach.

Soto, 19, is eligible to represent three countries -- Chile through his father, Mexico through his mother, and the U.S. because it's the country of his birth. He has represented the U.S. at U19 and U20 level, and scored four goals for the Americans at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup...

In the Gold Cup final against Mexico last month, United States right-back Reggie Cannon put in a standout performance. In a family that includes two Ivy League graduates and an acclaimed climatologist, however, it takes a lot to stand out.

"We entered this week's mediation with representatives of USSF full of hope," Levinson said in the statement. "Today we...

Atlanta coach De Boer: Equal pay 'ridiculous'

U.S. Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro addressed the World Cup-winning women's national team's call for equal pay amid chants from the crowd in New York.

Atlanta United manager Frank de Boer has said he does not believe in equal pay for men and women in football, or sports such as tennis, because women don't bring in as much revenue, according to a report.

"I think for me, it's ridiculous," De Boer told The Guardian in an article published on Monday when asked about the plans for equal pay. "It's the same like tennis. If there are watching, for the World Cup final, 500 million people or something like that, and 100 million for a women's final,...
