Steve Nicol feels Robert Moreno should be thanking Luis Enrique for even helping manage Spain in the first place.
Luis Enrique branded predecessor Robert Moreno as "disloyal" with his ambitions to remain in charge of Spain.

Robert Moreno hit back at Luis Enrique's criticism by defending his own role as interim Spain manager, saying: "everybody is aware that had I not continued [taken the Spain role], he would not be national team coach [today]."

During his unveiling on Wednesday, Luis Enrique said Moreno's ambition to continue at the helm of the national team through Euro 2020 made him "disloyal". He also said Moreno would no longer be a part of his coaching staff despite the two having worked together since 2008.

Luis Enrique has branded his predecessor and former assistant Robert Moreno as "disloyal" in a presentation for his return to his role as Spain coach.

Moreno took temporary charge of the national team in March when Luis Enrique's daughter was diagnosed with bone cancer, before being appointed on a full-time basis in June.

Moreno left the job last Tuesday after Spain completed their qualification for Euro 2020 with a 5-0 win over Romania, with Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales saying:...

Xabi Alonso acquitted of tax fraud by Spanish court

Steve Nicol says Robert Moreno would find it tough to return to an assistant role with the Spain team.

Former Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso has been cleared of three counts of tax fraud in a Madrid court.

Alonso, who retired in 2017, was accused of defrauding the Spanish tax office of €2 million from 2010 to 2012 while on the books at Real Madrid, and of allegedly creating a tax haven for unpaid taxes on the revenue of image rights.

If found guilty, Alonso would have faced up to a five-year prison sentence and a €4m fine.

Luis Enrique returned to his role as manager of Spain on Tuesday, having temporarily stepped down in June for personal reasons.

Two months later, the former Barcelona manager shared the tragic news that his nine-year-old daughter Xana had died following a five-month battle with bone cancer. During his absence, Roberto Moreno oversaw the team, but said in September he would step aside should Luis Enrique decide to come back.
