Ronaldinho staying in luxury hotel with pool while on house arrest in Paraguay

Ex-Barcelona and Brazil star Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto Assis, have spent their second week under house arrest in Paraguay in separate $350-per-night luxury suites on their own floors in a hotel in Asuncion.

The two also have use of outdoor grounds, a pool and a ballroom in which they are practicing their football skills.

FIFA is supporting CONMEBOL's request to suspend the beginning of World Cup qualifiers scheduled for the end of March due to fears over the spread of the coronavirus.

Football's world governing body made the announcement on Thursday after CONMEBOL published a letter on Wednesday with the request to postpone the March matches on behalf of members Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Former Colombia striker Faustino Asprilla has said he had to convince a hitman not to kill Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert after the two clashed in a World Cup qualifying match in 1997.

In a documentary broadcast on Colombian television channel TelePacifico on Tuesday, Asprilla said the gunman called his hotel room after both he and Chilavert were sent off in a qualifier in Asuncion, which Paraguay won 2-1.
