New Zealand Football elects first female president Johanna Wood

A hat-trick from David Williams dented the Newcastle Jets' A-League finals hopes as Wellington Phoenix run out 4-1 winners.
Wellington Phoenix scored first against the run of play before a Keisuke Honda penalty meant the two sides would share the points.

New Zealand Football continued overhauling its governance after a tumultuous 2018 by electing Johanna Wood as its first female president at their annual congress in Auckland on Tuesday.

Wood, who was elected to NZF's executive committee last year for a four-year term, replaces acting president Phil Barry, who resigned last week.

Barry himself replaced Deryck Shaw, who resigned in October after an independent review found the executive committee had adopted a "hands off approach" to governance following...

New Zealand Football has confirmed that international futsal goalkeeper Atta Elayyan was one of the victims in Friday's Christchurch mosque shootings.

The 33-year-old, who had represented the Futsal Whites 19 times, was praying at the Masjid Al Noor Mosque next to Hagley Park when he was shot, the governing body said.

"It is still hard to comprehend what happened in Christchurch on Friday afternoon," NZF chief executive Andrew Pragnell said in a statement.

Australia to host Argentina, South Korea, New Zealand in Women's World Cup warm-up tournament

Matildas' head coach Alen Stajcic believes the Women's World Cup is one of the most open it has been with a number of teams having a good chance of winning the tournament.

Matildas coach Alen Stajcic has described the inaugural Cup of Nations as the "perfect" preparation for next year's World Cup.

The Matildas will meet Argentina, South Korea and New Zealand on home soil in late February as part of their build-up to France.

The mini-tournament will feature three double-headers at Jubilee Stadium in Sydney, Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane and AAMI Park in Melbourne.

"For me it's perfect -- different styles of play," Stajcic said on Tuesday.

It is a major piece of the puzzle...

New Zealand Football chief resigns due to 'bullying' in women's football

Deryck Shaw, New Zealand Football's (NZF) president, has resigned after failing to appropriately deal with a bullying scandal in the national women's team.

In July, 13 players refused to play for the team, forcing Andreas Heraf to resign as head coach and technical director. And an independent panel later concluded that the Austrian had "bullied and harassed" players.

Then NZF chief Andy Martin was also forced to resign and Shaw has now decided to step down. Shaw apologised after...

Ex-New Zealand women's coach Andreas Heraf bullied players, review finds

New Zealand Football (NZF) has issued an apology after an independent review found women players had been "bullied and harassed" by ex-coach Andreas Heraf.

Heraf resigned from his post, having been placed on leave since June when NZF received letters from 13 players who said they would not play for the national team if he remained in charge.

Some of the letters alleged bullying and intimidation by Heraf, who also served as technical director of New Zealand Football.

The independent review,...
