Bencharki misses penalty as Sudan hold Morocco

Achraf Bencharki missed a second-half penalty as Morocco were held 0-0 by Sudan in their final group game at the African Nations Championship in Casablanca on Sunday.

The point is enough for Morocco to top the group - setting up a meeting with either Zambia or Namibia at the Stade Muhammed V on Saturday - while Sudan will face Group B's winner on the same day in Marrakech.

In the group's other fixture, already eliminated Guinea beat Mauritania 1-0 to end their disappointing campaign with a first...

Sudan beat Mauritania, eliminate Guinea

Walaa Eldin Musa scored the only goal of the game as Sudan beat Mauritania in their second African Nations Championship match, eliminating the Mourabitounes in the process.

The defeat also signals the end of the road for Guinea, who were defeated 3-1 by Morocco in the day's earlier kick off, with Sudan now set to face hosts Morocco in Casablanca on Sunday to decide top spot.

After two matches, both Morocco and Sudan have six points, with Mauritania and Guinea, both pointless, set to contest the...

Hosts Morocco kick off CHAN campaign with Mauritania victory

Ayoub El Kaabi scored twice while Ismail El Haddad and Achraf Bencharki also found the net as rampant Morocco broke Mauritania's bold resolve to begin their African Nations Championship campaign with a convincing 4-0 win on home soil.

Despite their overwhelming dominance, the hosts had been frustrated by Mauritania and a series of heroic stops by goalkeeper Souleymane Brahim before El Kaabi, reacting quickest to Ismail Haddad's delicious through ball, finished calmly to break the deadlock in the...

Cameroon will join Algeria and Morocco as finalists in Gabon next year.

Tunisia took the lead in Group A thanks to a 3-0 win at Djibouti.

Naim Sliti, Hamdi Harbaoui and Yassine Khenissi were on the scoresheet, who moved a point ahead of Liberia, who still...

Nigeria lose to Egypt, fail to qualify for 2017 African Nations Cup

Mohamed Saleh and Egypt have eliminated Stanley Amuzie and Nigeria from next year's African Nations Cup.

Nigeria will not be competing at the 2017 African Nations Cup after losing 1-0 to Egypt on Tuesday.

Ramadan Sobhy took advantage of a missed clearance to put Egypt atop qualifying Group G at Borg El-Arab Stadium, where a longstanding ban on fans attending games in large numbers in Egypt was temporarily lifted.

Nigeria faced a must-win game after Chad withdrew from their group earlier this week. Under CAF's rules, all of Chad's previous results are thrown out, leaving Nigeria with just two points...
