One-man wall: Gurpreet's reflexes defy Qatar

India may not have made the brightest start to their World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers, but it hasn't been due to any lack of effort from the team's No.1, Gurpreet Sandhu.

After pulling off a series of remarkable saves in the opening game against Oman, Gurpreet was it again in Doha, diving left, right and centre to frustrate the Asian champions Qatar.

His reflexes kept India in the game, and ESPN's live blog busy.

Here is how he rose to the occasion once more:

4' - Qatar look to float a long ball from the right, but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu is first to it!

Eight years ago, when India played the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar, Subrata Pal had caught the eye of the global media with his fabulous performance under the bar. Sandhu was one of the two reserve keepers then. Perhaps he can spirit Subrata's heroics today..

10' - Captain denies the captain! Al-Haydos has a shot, low down, and Sandhu saves low to his right. Off the corner, they whip the ball in at the far post, but Abdelkarim Hassan cannot get across to it.

20'Al-Haydos bends a ball from outside the box, away to the left, and Sandhu fingertips this away.

34'SAVED BY SANDHU AGAIN! Offside anyway, but Boudiaf was played in, and had a low shot at goal. Sandhu gets low and saves it.

45'Abdelkarim with a shot, and Sandhu with an outstanding save. Just punts it away with his right hand. Like a whiplash, and he does superbly to get a firm hand on to it.

45+1' - Sandhu low down to his right, this time, and saves off Almoez Ali! Wow...superb save from the Indian keeper. Qatar go for the rebound, and squirt it wide.

85' - HOW DO QATAR NOT SCORE FROM THIS? A shot from the left, scorched low by Abdelkarim, and Sandhu gets low down to his left and pats it away. It falls in the path of an onrushing Almoez, but he hits the bar! By the time the rebound is hit wide, the offside flag has gone up against the home side! Phew!

90+4' - FULL TIME! India have held on for a famous draw. And this is down to Gurpreet Singh Sandhu!

Terrific performance in the first half, where he pulled off about seven or eight outstanding saves, and from there on it seemed like Qatar had lost their composure just a touch. India played with a lot more purpose in the second half, and Udanta Singh, Manvir Singh and Anirudh Thapa made enough forays forward as well. India are celebrating this like they should. Asian champions Qatar, with Almoez Ali in their ranks, failing to get three points out of this.
