Didier Deschamps: World Cup draw 'could have been worse' for France

ESPN's Julien Laurens believes France will be very happy after drawing Australia, Peru and Denmark.

France coach Didier Deschamps acknowledged Les Bleus' World Cup group "could have been worse" after his heavily fancied side were pitted against Australia, Denmark and Peru.

France will kick off their bid against coachless Australia in Kazan on June 16 before facing Peru in Ekaterinburg and rounding off their Group C fixtures against Denmark in Moscow, playing all three games in 10 frenetic days.

With Spain, England, Croatia and Uruguay among the heavyweight opponents his side avoided, Deschamps...

World Cup Group C: France, Australia, Peru, Denmark

ESPN's Julien Laurens believes France will be very happy after drawing Australia, Peru and Denmark.

In all honesty, you would probably fancy a France B-team to do pretty well in this group. The amount of talent Didier Deschamps has to choose from can surely only be held back by Deschamps himself, a limited manager who nonetheless has won himself a new contract ahead of this tournament.

They will surely top the group, and second place looks likely to be a scrap between the rest. Denmark are a solid collective with one outstanding talent in Christian Eriksen, but Australia are still looking for...

Tottenham, Denmark striker Christian Eriksen ready to 'light up' World Cup

The FC panel pile on the praise for Christian Eriksen's hat-trick performance that powered Denmark's thrashing of Ireland.

DUBLIN -- After his playoff hat trick against Ireland powered his country to next year's World Cup finals, Denmark talisman Christian Eriksen is determined to make the most of playing in Russia next summer.

"There are so many other players doing very well, so it's difficult to say if you are in the top 10 or five," he told reporters. "I'm just a player who tries to do his best and be up there."

In Dublin on Tuesday, Eriksen's treble fired Denmark to a 5-1 win, and he acknowledged the influence of...

Denmark boss Age Hareide thanks Ireland 'for giving us space'

The FC panel pile on the praise for Christian Eriksen's hat-trick performance that powered Denmark's thrashing of Ireland.
Ireland scored first but Denmark came back in a big way behind the talent of Tottenham's Christian Eriksen to book a spot in the World Cup.

Denmark manager Age Hareide thanked Republic of Ireland for giving his side, and in particular matchwinner Christian Eriksen, the space within which to thrive.

Eriksen hit a hat trick as Denmark ran out 5-1 winners in a World Cup playoff second leg in Dublin on Tuesday to qualify for the finals in Russia next summer after a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Parken.

And Hareide had a message for Ireland after the match as he praised Eriksen for his contribution.

He said: "Just to say, 'Thank you very...
