Rudi Gutendorf, the tireless manager who guided a world record 55 teams, including 18 national sides, has died at 93, according to several German media outlets.

Born in Koblenz on the banks of the Rhine, the man dubbed "Restless Rudi" started his football career as a player for hometown club TuS Neuendorf before taking his first management role with Swiss side Blue Stars Zurich in the 1950s.

Brazilian striker changes name after China call-up

Brazilian-born striker Elkeson has changed his name as he prepares to help China qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

The 30-year-old, who has played in the Chinese Super League since 2013, became a naturalised citizen earlier in August and was named on Wednesday in China's squad for their opening 2022 World Cup qualifier at The Maldives on Sept. 10.

BEIJING -- Former FIFA female player of the year Sun Wen has been elected a vice president of the Chinese Football Association as China seeks to revamp its lagging national program.

Sun, who became captain of the Chinese team in 2000, is currently director of the women's youth training department at the CFA.

Brazilian-born striker Elkeson is the first player of non-Chinese heritage to have been included in the China squad, after he was called up for their 2022 World Cup qualifier against Maldives on Sept. 10.

The decision follows weeks of speculation the Guangzhou Evergrande forward had been awarded citizenship in the country after playing in the Chinese Super League since 2013, thereby meeting FIFA's five-year residency requirements.
