Uganda squad named for Cape Verde qualifier

Uganda coach Sebastien Desabre has named a 30-man squad ahead of a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Cape Verde next month.

Uganda started their campaign with a 1-0 win away to Cape Verde last year, before battling to a goalless home draw against Tanzania. They then responded with 3-0 and 2-0 wins against Lesotho to put them on the brink of qualification.

Emmanuel Amunike secures first Tanzania victory

Simon Msuva and Ally Mbwana Samatta scored as Tanzania defeated Cape Verde 2-0 in Tuesday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.

The win was a first for Taifa Stars coach and former Nigeria international Emmanuel Amunike, who was appointed by the East Africans in August.

It also revives their hopes of qualifying for the finals in Cameroon, as they move up to second place in Group L on five points, while also avenging their 3-0 defeat by Cape Verde on...

"Unfortunately we lost 3-0 last Saturday. We paid heavily away to Cape Verde because of playing badly," Amunike told journalists on Monday.

"The Taifa...

Former Portugal international Rui Aguas returned for a second spell in charge of the Cape Verde Islands in May, having quit in 2017 when he was not paid for some six months.

However, a change of leadership at the football federation in the former Portuguese colony has precipitated the 58-year-old ex-Benfica and FC Porto striker agreeing to take over again from Lucio Antunes.

Aguas was in charge when the Cape Verdeans participated at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Equatorial Guinea, and...
