Australia to face Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay in 2020 Copa America

Julien Laurens says Lionel Messi separated himself from other Ballon d'Or finalists by carrying Barcelona.
Craig Burley believes Lionel Messi is single-handedly covering up deficiencies at Barcelona.

The Socceroos will tackle global superstar Lionel Messi and Argentina at next year's Copa America after Australia were drawn alongside the co-hosts.

Graham Arnold's men were drawn in Group A for the South American continental championship, which starts on June 12.

That means Australia will play their five group stages matches in Argentina against the two-time World Cup champions, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay.

The Socceroos' opening match will be against 15-time Copa America champions Uruguay...

FIFA bans former Brazil federation chief Ricardo Teixeira for life for bribes

Ricardo Teixeira was the president of the Brazil Football Confederation from 1989-2012.

FIFA has banned former Brazilian Football Confederation president Ricardo Teixeira for life for receiving millions of dollars in bribes.

FIFA says Teixeira has been found guilty of taking bribes linked to commercial contracts for South American competitions from 2006-12. He was fined 1 million Swiss francs ($1m), but it is unclear how FIFA can enforce payment.

The judgment was announced four years after Teixeira was indicted by U.S. federal authorities on racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering...

Alisson and Ederson's rise in FC 100: How Brazil developed two of world's best goalkeepers

To some people, it might seem strange that two of the best goalkeepers in the world -- perhaps even the best -- are both from Brazil. After all, Alisson of Liverpool and Ederson of Manchester City -- No. 1 and No. 4 in the 2019 FC 100 respectively -- hail from a country where it has sometimes been felt that Brazil accumulated World Cups in spite of their keepers, not because of them.

The above might be harsh on Gilmar, from the 1958 and '62 World Cup-winning teams, though Felix from 1970 was...

Tite's Brazil go 'forward by moving back' in encouraging win vs. South Korea

Arthur Rowe, boss of Tottenham's famous "Push and Run" 1950-51 side, had some advice for fellow coaches: Write down your starting lineup at the start of the season, he counselled. During the course of the campaign, when things get tough and your mind is confused, take out the piece of paper and have a look. You will probably come to the conclusion that your original idea was the best one.

Brazil coach Tite did something similar with a morale-boosting and highly welcome 3-0 win over South Korea in...

Philippe Coutinho scored Brazil's second goal on Tuesday.

Brazil returned to triumphant form after a five-game winless streak on Tuesday with the recalled Philippe Coutinho starring in a 3-0 win over South Korea.

In front of a sparse crowd in Abu Dhabi, Lucas Paqueta put Brazil 1-0 up in the ninth minute when he headed home from close range after excellent work on the left from Coutinho and Renan Lodi.

Coutinho, who was recalled to the starting line-up after a couple of matches on the bench, made it 2-0 nine minutes before half-time when he curled a superb...
