Diego Maradona has no cartilage left in knees, needs surgery and prostheses - surgeon

Diego Maradona's orthopedic surgeon says the Argentina football great has no cartilage left in his knees due to severe osteoarthritis and will need prostheses.

German Ochoa also said Friday that the 57-year-old Maradona must decide if he wants to have surgery.

Maradona captained Argentina to the 1986 World Cup title. He became the new coach of Mexican second-tier club Dorados de Sinaloa last month.

He has been recently seen walking with difficulty due to the osteoarthritis which has affected him...

Brazil's narrow victory is more worrying than Argentina's defeat

Brazil snatched it right at the end, centre-back Miranda shrugging off Nicolas Otamendi at a corner to glance in the 1-0 winner over Argentina ahead of keeper Sergio Romero. But Brazil boss Tite may well come away from Saudi Arabia a slightly more worried man than Lionel Scaloni, his Argentine counterpart.

The teams are at vastly different stages of development.

Scaloni is a caretaker coach, in temporary charge. The chaos of Argentina's World Cup campaign has forced the FA to think long and...

A stoppage-time goal from Miranda gave Brazil a 1-0 win over South American rivals Argentina in a foul-laden friendly in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The central defender rose at the near post to beat Argentina keeper Sergio Romero to a Neymar corner and head home the winner, deciding a game that was set to go to penalties to determine the outcome.

"Scoring a goal against Argentina is always gratifying and always exciting," Miranda said.

Argentina are one of only two teams to have beaten Brazil since...

Lionel Messi dazzled by champion pizza tosser during international break

When it comes to eating copious amounts of pizza prepared by one of the world's best dough tossers, Lionel Messi knows carbs don't count when they're consumed on holiday.

Messi, whose weakness for the dish has been well-documented, spent time during his Argentina sabbatical by receiving a first-hand demonstration from chef Fabian Martin -- twice crowned in Naples as the world pizza champion and apparently a member of, yes, the Pizza Hall of Fame.

The Barcelona star, along with his wife, Antonella...

Lionel Messi's Argentina absence a 'pity for football' - Neymar

Brazil's Philippe Coutinho insists he wants to beat Argentina to claim bragging rights in what he views as one of the greatest rivalries in football.
Brazil and Manchester United's Fred insists he is honoured to be called up for the national team but insists he is looking forward to being back at the club despite recent negative results.
Liverpool and Brazil's Fabinho insists he is still trying to settle into life under Jurgen Klopp and that his demands in training and matches are extremely intense.

Brazil forward Neymar said he hopes Lionel Messi will return to play for Argentina as it is a "pity" he is missing international football at the moment.

Messi has taken a break from the Argentina squad since captaining them to the round-of-16 at the World Cup, where they were beaten by eventual champions France.

Argentina face Brazil in a friendly in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, and Neymar had hoped to be facing his former Barcelona teammate.

"It's a pity for football," Neymar was quoted as saying in...
