Atletico celebrate Thomas' goal against Reus on Thursday.

Thomas Partey scored his first goal of the season to help Atletico Madrid advance in the Copa del Rey with a 1-0 over Reus Deportiu on Thursday.

The goal wrapped up a 3-1 aggregate victory and put Atletico through to the round of 16.

Diego Simeone rested several of his regulars ahead of Sunday's match at Malaga in La Liga, where Atletico are level on 35 points at the top of the standings with Barcelona, who are playing at the Club World Cup in Japan this weekend.

Fernando Torres and Jorge "Koke" Resurreccion were among the starters at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, though Torres again failed in his attempt to score his 100th goal with the club.

Thomas hit the only goal of the game after 53 minutes to end the resistance of the Segunda Division B outfit.

The victory was Atletico's ninth in a row in all competitions and kept the club unbeaten in 15 matches.
