Jack Duncan heading for Newcastle Jets exit after transfer clause triggered

Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Jack Duncan will leave his A-League club immediately to join an unnamed overseas club.

The Jets have accepted a "significant" transfer fee for the 25-year-old after a transfer clause was triggered in his contract.

Duncan will immediately leave Newcastle's preseason training camp in Spain to join his new club.

Coach Ernie Merrick said he was disappointed to lose Duncan but respected his decision.

"He's a great team man and well-respected member of this club, his engagement with our fans and his contribution to the Newcastle community shouldn't be overlooked," Merrick said.

"At his age and with his ability, I think Jack has the potential to go onto big things and I wish him the very best with the next step in his career."

Duncan thanked Newcastle, who handed him his A-League debut in 2011, for opportunities they have given him.

"I've grown as a player during my time in Newcastle, I've had some great times and worked with some fantastic people," Duncan said.

"This is a great opportunity to develop my career and one that I couldn't pass up."

Duncan made 51 appearances for the Jets in two spells, having re-joined them in 2016 from Danish side Randers, and helped them to last season's Grand Final.

Australia under-20 goalkeeper Noah James will join the team as cover for the remainder of the Jets' tour.
