Ryan Giggs to take up part-time role with football academy in Vietnam

Gaining glory for Vietnam wasn't easy for Le Cong Vinh, who's passion for football has been in his soul since a young age.

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is set to take on a role as technical director of the PVF Football Academy in Vietnam.

Local media reported that the academy had reached a two-year agreement with Giggs that will see him act as a consultant throughout the year, while he will coach youth players and train coaches during two visits to the academy in each 12-month period.

The PVF's website explained that Giggs, who is co-owner of non-league club Salford City, would play a part in "building and developing PVF to become the leading youth football training centre in Vietnam."

Giggs told Sky Sports: "I've not actually taken a new full-time job, despite what some people were reporting. I'm only going for three days for the launch of Promotion Fund of Vietnamese Football Talents FC's new academy, where me and Paul Scholes have agreed to go a couple of times a year to help establish a blueprint of Vietnamese grassroots football.

"They've just built a brand new academy so I'm going out with Scholesy for three days of consultancy, with the potential to link up with Salford in the future. We're building our academy and university so these links across the world will help. It is supposed to be an amazing facility."

The PVF describes itself as "a non-governmental and non-profit organisation."

Ryan Giggs has been out of coaching since leaving Manchester United as assistant coach last year.

Giggs has been frustrated in his attempts to secure a role in management at a Premier League club and had recently expressed interest in the jobs at Leicester City and Everton.

The 43-year-old has been out of coaching since leaving United as assistant to Louis van Gaal last year.

Giggs is no stranger to the Southeast Asian region and has visited several times since retiring as player, including a recent promotional visit to Thailand with "Class of 92" teammates Scholes, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville and Phil Neville.

The United connection in the region is strong and Bryan Robson, who was Giggs' captain early in his career at Old Trafford, had a spell as manager of Thailand from 2009 to 2011. Another former United teammate, Paul Parker, is currently based in Singapore where he works as a junior coach.

Giggs will travel to Vietnam next week for an inauguration ceremony, where he will be joined by Scholes, who will be a guest at the event.
