Toronto FC survive Rapids on Osorio's winner

Jonathan Osorio struck in the 70th minute to push Toronto over Colorado in a back-and-forth match at BMO Field. To watch MLS sign up to ESPN+.

After Toronto FC squandered an early two-goal lead, Jonathan Osorio got the go-ahead score in the 70th minute for a 3-2 victory over the visiting Colorado Rapids on Sunday.

Toronto (12-10-9, 45 points) is tied with D.C. United for fourth in the Eastern Conference with three games left.

Colorado (10-15-6, 36 points) had won in its first three games with former Toronto assistant Robin Fraser as head coach. The Rapids are seven points out of the Western Conference playoffs with three games remaining.

Tsubasa Endoh and Alejandro Pozuelo scored five minutes apart in the first half, before Colorado defender Keegan Rosenberry made it 2-1 in the 31st and Sam Nicholson got the equalizer in the 62nd with a long cross that bounced past goalkeeper Quentin Westberg.

Osorio, who replaced the injured Nicolas Benezet in the 40th minute, was on the end of a counter-attack to finish the service from Erickson Gallardo to extend Toronto's unbeaten run to seven games (3-0-4).

Endoh opened the scoring in the eighth minute after the set-up from Jozy Altidore to Richie Laryea on the right wing.

Two minutes later, Colorado defender Lalas Abubakar pulled Altidore by the shirt to prevent a scoring opportunity. After a nearly three-minute review to see if a red card was warranted, Pozuelo put the shot from the spot down the middle in the 13th minute for his 11th goal and a 2-0 lead.

The Rapids cut the deficit in half in the 31st when Rosenberry scored his first goal at the right post after a pass from Nicholson went off a defender's leg.

Nicholson drew a penalty when he was tripped by Westberg, but the keeper redeemed himself with the penalty save on Kei Kamara in the 39th minute by diving to his left for the stop.

Both teams are on the road Sept. 21 as Toronto visits LAFC while the Rapids go to Sporting Kansas City.
