Kazuyoshi Miura, Japan's oldest footballer, to play on past 50

Kazuyoshi Miura has agreed to prolong his stay at Yokohama FC for another 12 months.

Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura will play professional football beyond his 50th birthday after agreeing a new deal with Yokohama FC.

The 12-month contract signed with the second-tier club means Miura, 49, will enter his 32nd season as a professional footballer.

"I hope to keep fighting with all my might together with people involved with the club, my teammates and supporters who have always backed me," he said.

Masato Kudo leaves Whitecaps after one season, returns to J-League

Masato Kudo's time in MLS is over after one season.

Masato Kudo has left the Vancouver Whitecaps after one season to sign with Sanfrecce Hiroshima in Japan.

The 26-year-old and the MLS club mutually agreed to terminate his contract on Friday, and the J-League team said on Saturday his transfer was completed.

"Masato is one of the best professionals I have ever worked with and we are thankful for the contributions he made during his time in Vancouver," Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson said in a statement.

Thailand's AFF Suzuki Cup hero Chanathip Songkrasin is making the move to the J.League after agreeing an 18-month loan deal with newly promoted Consadole Sapporo.

But Japanese fans will have to wait until July 2017 to see the Muang Thong United star in action as he will play the first leg of next year's Thai League campaign, as well as the group stage of the AFC Champions League, for his parent club.

Kashima Antlers won the J-League title on Saturday.

SAITAMA, Japan -- Kashima Antlers earned their eighth J-League title by beating Urawa Reds 2-1 in the second leg of the final on Saturday.

Antlers lost the first leg 1-0 on Tuesday but clinched the title on away goals after the final finished 2-2 on aggregate.

Former Antlers striker Shinzo Koroki put Urawa ahead with a right-footed volley in the seventh minute, and Mu Kanezaki equalized with a header for the visitors five minutes before the break.
