Serie B match between Ascoli and Cremonese postponed after coronavirus fears

An Italian Serie B match was called off on Saturday around one hour before the scheduled kickoff because of fears over the coronavirus.

The Italian news agency ANSA said that the Ascoli-Cremonese match was postponed because the visiting side are from the Lombardy region in the north of Italy where 30 cases have been reported so far.

Lega Serie B later confirmed the decision in a statement, saying: "Following an insurgence of coronavirus cases in the north of Italy, it has made the suspension...

At Lazio and Benevento, the Inzaghi brothers are having a season to remember

Giancarlo Inzaghi doesn't smoke Monday to Friday. When the weekend comes around, though, he draws the blinds, pours himself a digestif and lights up. Inzaghi Sr. puts the football on and goes through around 20 cigarettes. "Don't tell the boys," he said. "I suffer more now they're both coaches."

It looks like their mother Marina has had a word with them because Filippo and Simone are doing everything in their power to make watching football as stress free as possible for papa. Rather than nursing...

Hellas Verona will be back in Serie A next season after a one-year absence after beating nine-man Cittadella 3-0 in the second leg of their promotion playoff on Sunday to win 3-2 on aggregate.

Cittadella had been hoping to earn promotion to the top flight of Italian football for the first time in their history after winning Thursday's first leg 2-0.

However, Mattia Zaccagni got Verona firmly back into the playoff in the first half and Samuel Di Carmine doubled his side's lead in the 69th minute,...

Palermo relegated to Serie C, could miss out on Serie B promotion playoffs

Palermo have been relegated to Serie C by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) because of financial irregularities, in a move that effectively ends their hopes of securing promotion to Italy's top division.

Relegated from Serie A last season, Palermo finished third in Serie B this term, earning a place in the promotion playoffs in which they were due to play their first match next week.

Instead, an FIGC tribunal ruled that the club would be placed last in the 19-team table, condemning them to...
