When India won the right to host the 2020 U-17 Women's World Cup on Friday, this writer's thoughts immediately went to two young women he has read about or known.

The first, Nathania John, is someone ESPN's Sharda Ugra recently wrote about. The other was a precocious 12-year-old that was playing in a Delhi girls' league game in 2004, whose game had skill, confidence and speed way beyond her years.

India to host the U-17 Women's World Cup in 2020

India will host the U-17 Women's World Cup in 2020, FIFA confirmed on Friday.

"We have decided that India will host the next U-17 Women's World Cup in 2020," FIFA president Gianni Infantino said after the FIFA Council met in Miami.

This will be the second FIFA tournament that India will host, after hosting the U-17 Men's World Cup in 2017, where England beat Spain 5-2 in the final in Kolkata. This will be the seventh edition of the U-17 Women's World Cup, and the second in Asia after...

FIFA strips Peru of hosting Under-17 World Cup, cites infrastructure

Wolverhampton Wanderers' Morgan Gibbs-White
It was claimed Morgan Gibbs-White was racially abused during England's Under-17 World Cup final against Spain.

FIFA's willingness to prosecute racism complaints at the World Cup in Russia was questioned by activists on Thursday after the governing body dropped a case from the Under-17 World Cup without taking action.

England striker Rhian Brewster reported overhearing teammate Morgan Gibbs-White being called a "monkey" by a Spanish opponent during their team's 5-2 victory in India last October.

FIFA's disciplinary panel concluded there was a "lack of sufficient evidence that could corroborate the English...

FIFA considering merging men's, women's U17, U20 World Cups

England might be the first and last team to be holders of the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups.

FIFA is looking to merge the tournaments won last year by English youth players to create a 48-team competition, emulating the expansion of the main World Cup. Officials are exploring the merits of an age cut-off at 18 or 19.

The women's youth tournaments could also be combined to create a single 24-team event under plans that were considered in a meeting of the governing body's competition committee...
