Steven Gerrard delighted by attitude of Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn

Ben Woodburn captains Liverpool's UEFA Youth League under-19 side.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been impressed with the attitude of young striker Ben Woodburn.

Wales international Woodburn, the youngest goal scorer in Liverpool history, made nine appearances for the Reds' first team last season but has made just one 45-minute substitute appearance this term.

Academy coach Gerrard has made Woodburn, who turned 18 on Sunday, captain of his UEFA Youth League under-19 side.

He is playing for the under-23s while training with the first team, and Gerrard has been...

Two Premier League players set to join Juan Mata's Common Goal initiative

Marcus Rashford's free kick was mishandled by Benfica's goalkeeper and sealed a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Man United.
Manchester United eased back into Champions League life as Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford put Basle to the sword.
Jose Mourinho touches on the speculation of his potential PSG move and the prospect of ending his career with Man United.

Juan Mata is set to add the first two English Premier League players to his Common Goal initiative, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Manchester United midfielder had been the only Premier League player to pledge to donate one percent of his wages to charity since the project launched in August.

But that is set to change when the first two English professional footballers are announced on Friday.

Turkish international Hasan Ali Kaldirim is the latest to join Mata and a number of other footballers including...

Liverpool knew goals would come after barren spell - Georginio Wijnaldum

Liverpool blasted Maribor 7-0 and thanks to Sevilla's loss, now top Group E.
Jurgen Klopp revels in Liverpool's seven-goal output at Maribor, a club record for a European away match.
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah scored twice and provided an assist as his side cruised to a 7-0 win over Maribor.

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has said the players always believed the goals would return despite a frustrating run of form.

Since beating Arsenal 4-0 on Aug. 27 to take their early-season tally to 14 in five matches, Jurgen Klopp's side then scored eight in eight, with three of them coming in one game against Leicester.

But Netherlands international Wijnaldum, speaking after Liverpool scored seven at Slovenian side Maribor in the Champions League on Tuesday, said: "We were a little bit...

Jack Wilshere: Troy Deeney's Arsenal comments weren't justified

After Troy Deeney's comments about Arsenal, Craig Burley says clubs know they can easily push the Gunners around.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere says it was "horrible" to hear Troy Deeney's scathing comments about his teammates this weekend, and insists the Watford striker's criticism was unjustified.

Deeney accused the Arsenal players of lacking "cojones" after Watford's 2-1 comeback win over the Gunners on Saturday, and said the team's defenders weren't up for a fight in the second half.

Wilshere admitted it was painful to hear such comments, but also launched a staunch defence of his teammates.

"As a player...

Ronald Koeman: I have 'total support' from the Everton board

Ronald Koeman acknowledges the pressure he's been put under after Everton fought back for a draw at Brighton.

Ronald Koeman says he has retained the Everton board's backing having met with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri on Friday, though he accepts his position is dependent on results.

Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright and others in the club's hierarchy visited Finch Farm last week to assess recent building work at Everton's training ground and while on site spoke with boss Koeman.

The renovation of Everton's own playing squad looked impressive during their summer spending spree but reality has so far...
