Carabao Cup draw: Southampton get Brighton, Newcastle at Forest

ESPN FC's Craig Burley details the expectations for new managers Maurizio Sarri and Unai Emery ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal's match this weekend.

Southampton will travel to Brighton in the Carabao Cup in the only all-Premier League matchup of the second round.

The 13 top-flight clubs not involved in the Champions League or Europa League enter the cup at this stage, but only south-coast rivals Southampton and Brighton were drawn against each other.

Newcastle face a trip to four-time winners Nottingham Forest, who beat the Magpies at St  James' Park in the same stage last year, while West Ham will also travel to play AFC Wimbledon in a...

Managers in English football will be shown yellow and red cards for misconduct in the technical area during competitive fixtures in the upcoming season, the Football Association (FA) announced on Tuesday.

Carabao Cup games to go straight to penalties after EFL removes extra-time

England forward Marcus Rashford tells Mark Ogden that playing less for Manchester United in 2018 has left him feeling fresh heading to Russia.
John Obi Mikel explains to Alison Bender why he believes that England have enough quality to reach the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.

League Cup matches will go straight to penalties if the scores are level at the end of 90 minutes from the coming season, after clubs voted to remove extra time, the English Football League (EFL) said on Friday.

The EFL said the withdrawal of the extra 30 minutes of play would help ease the burden on players during midweek cup matches by reducing fatigue.

Penalty shootouts will revert to the traditional format in which teams alternate their spot-kicks, the ruling body said, after last season's competition...

VAR set for Premier League trial in all games next season - report

Stewart Robson, Peter Walton and Alison Bender debate the use of VAR at the upcoming World Cup, and ask if referees are suitably prepared for it in the Premier League.

VAR is set to be tested in every Premier League game next season ahead of its potential full introduction in 2019-20, The Times has reported, with the league saying it is "monitoring the trials being conducted in other competitions."

The test regime is likely after The Times reported earlier this month that several top flight clubs had reservations about the technology.

That means its implementation, due to be voted on at a meeting of clubs next month, is likely to be delayed for another year.

VAR in England: Major incidents in 2018 include Tottenham, Man United

Steve Nicol and Mark Donaldson react to Danny Rose and Mauricio Pochettino's criticism of VAR, and whether it should be implemented at the World Cup.
ESPN FC's Mark Ogden talks with Man United's Ashley Young about the use of VAR and his hopes of shortening the time it takes in making decisions.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino called the Video Assistant Referee system "embarrassing'' after a chaotic FA Cup replay against Rochdale. Spurs claimed a 6-1 win over the League One side but the match was filled with controversy as Tottenham had two goals disallowed, were denied a penalty and awarded another all at the hands of VAR during a farcical first half at Wembley.

Here, we take a look at other major incidents using the technology in England so far this year.

Brighton 2-1 Crystal Palace,...
