Melbourne City have come from behind to give Western Sydney Wanderers their fifth draw in a row.

Melbourne City squandered a golden chance to go top of the A-League table with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Western Sydney.

City dominated for much of Sunday night's clash at AAMI Park but wasted multiple opportunities to score.

The Wanderers went ahead in the 19th minute when Jaushua Sotirio scored against the run of play.

City drew level through a 54th minute Ross McCormack penalty but were denied victory by their own poor finishing and a heroic performance from Wanderers goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic.

Ten-man Melbourne Victory salvaged a 1-1 draw with Western Sydney in a pulsating A-League clash in front of 21,577 fans at Etihad Stadium.

Victory played almost an hour a man down after Mitch Austin was sent off, but Thomas Deng equalised early in the second half after Oriol Riera opened the scoring for the visitors just before the break.

The Wanderers were left to rue squandered opportunities, with the most glaring a missed penalty by Riera just before half-time.

Austin received a yellow card...

Josep Gombau appointed Western Sydney Wanderers head coach

Western Sydney Wanderers have appointed Josep Gombau as their new A-League coach for the next three years.

The Wanderers confirmed the former Adelaide United mentor as the full-time successor to Tony Popovic on Wednesday.

"For me, this is an amazing opportunity at one of -- if not the biggest -- clubs in the Hyundai A-League," Gombau said in a statement released by the Wanderers.

Gombau coached Adelaide from 2013 to 2015 and won the inaugural FFA Cup, with the style of play he implemented at the...

Dimi Petratos scuppered a Western Sydney smash-and-grab by securing a 1-1 draw to maintain Newcastle's unbeaten A-League season start.

The Wanderers looked set to rebound in style from their midweek FFA Cup semifinal defeat thanks to Mark Bridge's sweet first-half strike.

That was until former Brisbane player Petratos stood tall in the heat at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on Sunday to help his side end the round in third spot.

The Jets, in their first outing since Ronald Vargas' horrific...

Adelaide United beat Western Sydney in FFA Cup semifinal

There will be no Sydney derby in the FFA Cup final, with Adelaide United defeating Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1 in the semifinal.

At Campbelltown Stadium on Tuesday night, two strikes from new Reds imports won a place in next month's showpiece against Sydney FC before Wanderers stalwart Brendon Santalab replied from the penalty spot.

Jonathan Aspropotamitis' nightmare clanger allowed Johan Absalonsen to set the Reds on their way on 13 minutes, before Daniel Adlung's super second-half strike.

It means...
