Victory lure Kruse back to Melbourne

With the summer transfer window coming to an end, Sid Lowe says Barcelona will probably have to overpay to get Neymar to Camp Nou.
Paul Mariner sifts through the latest transfer rumours, including a potential key loss for Manchester City and Keylor Navas' future at Real Madrid.

Robbie Kruse is returning to the A-League and Melbourne Victory.

The 30-year-old Socceroos attacker has signed a two-year contract with Victory, the club he played for from 2009-2011.

Kruse has spent the past eight years playing in Germany's first and second divisions, with a Chinese sojourn in 2017.

"To have the opportunity to come back to the A-League and represent Victory again is really special," Kruse said in a statement on Tuesday.

Why Robbie Kruse could be Australia's saviour, not scapegoat

"Sometimes it's not so much having the technique," Robbie Kruse said following Australia's victory over Uzbekistan in the Asian Cup round of 16 on Monday.

"It's more so about having the balls to do it, having the confidence to do it."

The topic in the mixed zone was his own penalty in the dramatic shootout win for the Socceroos, but zooming out, Kruse could just as well have been talking about his own game.

Or his true impact on the team. Or the wider Australian football public's misinterpretation...

Robbie Kruse scores again in Germany, pushing for World Cup playoff start

Robbie Kruse sent a positive message to Australia coach Ange Postecoglou ahead of next week's 2018 World Cup playoff by scoring for a third game in succession for Vfl Bochum in the German second tier over the weekend.

Kruse grabbed the second goal in Bochum's 2-0 win with a composed finish from close range after a brilliant pass from Kevin Stoger.

After coming off the bench as the Socceroos beat Thailand 2-1 in Melbourne on Sept. 5, Kruse surely must now be pushing for a starting spot in a goal-starved...

Philadelphia signs Giliano Wijnaldum, the brother of Liverpool's Georginio

Giliano Wijnaldum has completed a move to the Philadelphia Union.

The Philadelphia Union acquired left-back Giliano Wijnaldum -- the little brother of Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum -- as a discovery signing on Thursday.

Giliano Wijnaldum, 24, had been playing for second-tier club Bochum in Germany. Details of the transfer were not revealed.

The defender previously played for Union sporting director Earnie Stewart when the former U.S. international held the same position at AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands.

Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben accused of dive against Bochum

Bochum have hit out at Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben after he drew a red card and a penalty in Wednesday's DFB Pokal clash.

Pep Guardiola's Bayern triumphed 3-0 at the Ruhrstadion to set up a semifinal meeting with Werder Bremen.

Just before half-time, Robben fell to the ground inside the penalty box when substitute Jan Simunek, who had come on for Timo Perthel after a collision with Robben, tried to stop the Netherlands star from breaking clear towards goal.
