Jermain Defoe has free release clause if Sunderland are relegated - report

Dele Alli says it was an honour for him and England's young players to be on the pitch with Jermain Defoe.

England international Jermain Defoe could leave Sunderland for nothing this summer if the club do not retain their Premier League status.

Sources on Wearside have confirmed to Press Association Sport the existence of a clause in the contract extension the 34-year-old striker signed last June which would allow him to depart for no fee in the event of relegation.

Sunderland's Paddy McNair has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Sunderland defender Paddy McNair has said he demanded a permanent move away from Manchester United despite manager Jose Mourinho's wishes.

McNair, 21, left United for Sunderland last summer in a four-year deal after making 15 Premier League starts for the Old Trafford club.
