Andrea Stramaccioni is out as boss of Sparta Prague.

Struggling Sparta Prague have fired Andrea Stramaccioni as coach despite spending big on new players.

The move comes after Sparta drew 1-1 with 10-man Brno over the weekend. The team are fifth in the standings, 14 points behind leaders Viktoria Plzen.

Sparta opted to hire a foreign coach after struggling at home and abroad last year. The most famous Czech club, once a regular in the Champions League, last played in the group stage in 2005.

Former Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky announces retirement

Tomas Rosicky has retired from professional football, Sparta Prague have announced, with Borussa Dortmund telling ESPN FC he remains an "all-time favourite" at the club.

Rosicky, 37, left Arsenal in 2016 after 10 years in the Premier League to return to the club where he began his career.

Cameroon international Georges Mandjeck has completed a move away from FC Metz to become Sparta Prague's ninth signing of the window, the French club confirmed on their official website.

The central midfielder won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Indomitable Lions earlier this year, and also featured in the Confederations Cup in Russia last month.

"I'm very happy to join Sparta Prague," Mandjeck wrote on his official Twitter handle. "It's a great opportunity for me.

PRAGUE -- Austria striker Marc Janko has moved to Sparta Prague on a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old forward joins Sparta from Swiss club Basel, where his two-year contract had expired.

Janko, who scored 14 goals in 32 matches for Basel last season, previously played for clubs including Sydney FC in Australia, Trabzonspor in Turkey, Porto in Portugal and Twente in the Netherlands, along with Admira Wacker and Red Bull Salzburg in his home country.

Andrea Stramaccioni faces the challenge of reviving Sparta Prague.

Czech club Sparta Prague have appointed Andrea Stramaccioni as their new coach.

The Italian, who has signed a two-year deal, becomes just the fourth foreign coach to have worked in the Czech Republic's top division.

His appointment comes after the club's recent struggles for domestic form and their failure to reach the Champions League since 2005.
