Socceroos captain Mark Milligan announces retirement from international football

Brighton score twice in two minutes in the first half, but Diogo Jota helps Wolves salvage a 2-2 draw.
Matildas captain and star striker Sam Kerr sits down with ESPN to share her journey from Aussie rules to soccer and what coming home to Perth truly means.

The Socceroos have lost the final link to Australia's "golden generation" with captain Mark Milligan announcing his international retirement.

One of just two Australians to make four World Cup squads along with Tim Cahill, the 34-year-old told teammates and staff on Monday he was calling time on his Socceroos career.

Milligan debuted for Australia in a friendly against Liechtenstein in June 2006 and went on to make 80 appearances for his country.

A member of Australia's 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018...

Australia captain Milligan joins Southend

Socceroos skipper Mark Milligan has joined English third-tier outfit Southend United.

The 33-year-old midfielder left Scottish Premiership club side Hibernian in May and has been recruited by the League One club on an initial one-year deal, plus an option for a further year.

"I'm very excited. It's always a process but to be down here now I can't wait to get started," said Milligan, capped 79 times by Australia and who featured at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.

U.S. youth Charlie Kelman scores from own half in pro debut in England

United States youth international Charlie Kelman scored from inside his own half on his professional debut in England.

Playing for Southend in the third-tier League One, Kelman lobbed the Plymouth goalkeeper in the second minute of stoppage time. But it wasn't enough to prevent Southend losing 3-2 on Saturday.

Manager Chris Powell says Kelman "was a real livewire for us and obviously he's scored a wonderful goal."

It evoked memories of David Beckham's strike for Manchester United from the halfway...

Two goals in six second-half minutes earned Southend a 2-0 win at Bradford.

It was their third win in eight days and ended Bradford's four-match unbeaten run.

The Bantams who lost striker Kai Bruenker to injury in the 14th minute, came closest to scoring in a scrappy first half when goalkeeper Mark Oxley dived full-length to turn away Callum Guy's 20-yard shot.

They also came close to breaking the deadlock in the 56th minute only to be denied by Oxley, who made two superb goal-line saves after a free-kick...

Oldham's relegation worries deepened as they slumped to a dismal 3-0 home defeat against Southend.

The Latics were let down by woeful finishing before Simon Cox's second-half double inspired Southend to their fourth away win of the season.

The Shrimpers needed just five minutes to break through as Shayon Harrison headed a corner against the post and Theo Robinson tapped in the loose ball.

Oldham's Eoin Doyle could have levelled before Southend threatened again when Stephen McLaughlin forced a save from...
