Borussia Dortmund and Schalke: Close rivals who could not be further apart

Borussia Dortmund are the dominant force, but the Ruhr derby is always hotly contested.

Dortmund (51.5136° N, 7.4653° E) and Gelsenkirchen (51.5177° N, 7.0857° E) are right in the centre of the Ruhr valley -- separated by a mere 30km (18 miles) -- but the sporting geography has shifted so much in Germany's most football-crazed region that Borussia and Schalke 04 barely find themselves in the same league.

United States' McKennie expected to miss rest of Bundesliga season - source

As the USMNT prepare to face Chile, Taylor Twellman examines the challenges facing Gregg Berhalter's team and the struggles of Christian Pulisic.

McKennie, 20, left that game in the 68th minute and was later ruled out of this week's friendly against Chile with what Schalke on Monday called a "ruptured" ankle ligament.

U.S. Soccer's description of the injury on Monday was not as ominous, however,...

U.S.'s Weston McKennie out for Chile match with ankle injury

Taylor Twellman says the U.S.'s official reboot has begun under Gregg Berhalter, but expects to learn much more from their game versus Chile.

HOUSTON -- United States manager Gregg Berhalter said midfielder Weston McKennie is out for Tuesday's friendly with Chile due to a left ankle injury he picked up on Thursday against Ecuador, but Berhalter added that the player didn't sustain any broken bones.

McKennie was injured midway through the second half when he fell awkwardly after attempting a headed clearance. He left the field with the help of trainers but eventually required a stretcher to carry him back to the U.S. bench.
