Birmingham again failed to find a winning formula but it was Nottingham Forest manager Philippe Montanier who paid the ultimate price as the sides played out a goalless draw.

Despite the inclusion of on-loan signing Craig Gardner in the second half, Birmingham lacked the guile and goal threat to inflict a defeat on an out-of-form Forest side.

As a result of the tame draw Birmingham are still seeking their first win under new boss Gianfranco Zola six games into the Italian's reign.

Struggling Nottingham Forest sack manager Philippe Montanier

Philippe Montanier is out as manager of Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Philippe Montanier.

Forest made the announcement late on Saturday night in the wake of the goalless draw at Birmingham, their eighth game without a win in all competitions.

A statement from Forest read: "The club has made the decision following a series of disappointing results this season and given the current position in the league table.

"The search for a replacement manager will now begin. In the meantime, Gary Brazil will be handling first-team affairs.

American takeover of Nottingham Forest has fallen through - owner

Fawaz Al-Hasawi
Nottingham Forest are ailing Fawaz Al Hasawi's ownership.

Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi has announced that a prospective takeover of the club by an American consortium has fallen through.

Al Hasawi said the deal, which had been expected to be finalised this week, was "not in the interests of the long-term future of our club.''

Forest are ailing under the Kuwaiti's ownership, and currently stand just two points above the Championship relegation zone after losing their last five matches in all competitions.

It had been hoped by supporters that...

John Jay Moores remains hopeful over Nottingham Forest takeover

John Jay Moores previously owned Major League Baseball side San Diego Padres.

The protracted takeover of Nottingham Forest has been delayed further but investor John Jay Moores remains keen to complete the deal in the near future.

Former San Diego Padres owner Moores had previously said he was confident the deal, reported to be worth £50 million, would be concluded on Tuesday, but that now appears unlikely.

Press Association Sport reports the delay is merely down to some details being revised, rather than hitting any major complications. BBC Radio Nottingham has also...

Wigan booked their place in round four of the FA Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the DW Stadium.

Goals in either half from Will Grigg and Yanic Wildschut were enough to see off a poor Forest side, who were second best for the vast majority of the encounter.

The visitors even squandered a gilt-edged opportunity to get back into the game when they were awarded a penalty with nine minutes remaining.

Latics goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard, who had joined on loan from Stoke just...
