Former Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri has agreed a two-year deal to manage Ligue 1 side Nantes.

The Italian, who led the Foxes to the Premier League title in 2016, has been without a club since being sacked by City in February.

"FC Nantes is pleased to announce the arrival of Claudio Ranieri at the head of his professional group," a statement on the club's official website said.

Claudio Ranieri says Raymond Domenech has "always been a bizarre guy" as he prepares to take charge of Ligue 1 club Nantes, despite the former France manager's disapproval.

Ranieri told Mediaset television that his appointment is "not yet official," but added that negotiations "are at an advanced stage" ahead of a return to the game after being sacked by Leicester City in February.

Nantes have obtained an exemption from French Football League (LFP) rules on the age of a coach to appoint Claudio Ranieri, L'Equipe has reported.

LFP regulations say a club cannot select a coach aged 65 or over, with Ranieri having celebrated his 65th birthday in October.

However, both the LFP and Unecatef, France's union for professional coaches, have given the green light to Nantes bringing in Ranieri, who steered Leicester to an astonishing Premier League title win in 2015-16.

Claudio Ranieri won the Premier League title with Leicester in 2016.

Former Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri is on the shortlist for the Nantes job, according to chairman Waldemar Kita.

The Ligue 1 club are currently on the lookout for a new coach following Sergio Conceicao's departure for Porto earlier this week.
