Morecambe and Grimsby shared the spoils as a tough encounter ended goalless at a windswept Globe Arena.

Both sides struggled to create clear-cut openings, with the home side shading things in terms of chances.

Morecambe, with the wind at their backs, had much the better of the first half.

Grimsby's James McKeown was the busier of the two goalkeepers and produced a superb 23rd-minute save from an Adam McGurk shot at the end of a fantastic flowing move involving Luke Conlan and Vadaine Oliver.

Tom Pope scored twice as Port Vale picked up a second successive win for Neil Aspin's rejuvenated side with a 3-0 success at Morecambe.

Pope's first came after 18 minutes following some shocking home defending.

Morecambe's Max Muller gave the ball away sloppily on the edge of his own area and Ben Whitfield took advantage of the mistake to whip in a cross from the left that was met by the head of Pope six yards out.

His second came after 67 minutes as he kept his cool to out-muscle the Morecambe defence...

Chesterfield's plight at the bottom of the Football League deepened after they crashed to a sixth successive league defeat as Morecambe won 2-0 at the Proact Stadium.

Adam McGurk scored in each half as former Spireites' goalkeeper Barry Roche made several fine saves to extend the hosts' poor run of just two points from possible 27.

Roche denied the home side with a double save from Kristian Dennis and Chris O'Grady in the 11th minute before McGurk fired Morecambe ahead with a 20-yard free-kick six...

Crawley took three vital points from a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Morecambe at the Globe Arena.

The only goal of the game came in the 19th minute through Billy Clifford, who took a corner which was missed by everyone in the box and curled into the back of the Morecambe net.

The Shrimps then saw veteran striker Kevin Ellison dismissed for an off-the-ball incident in the 33rd minute that gave the home side a mountain to climb.

To give Jim Bentley's side credit, they dominated the game after the break...

Exeter returned to winning ways with an emphatic 4-1 win against Morecambe at St James' Park.

The Grecians went in front after 20 minutes when Lloyd James' corner caused havoc inside the Morecambe box and the ball was scrambled over the line, with Troy Brown claiming to have got the final touch.

Pierce Sweeney then side-footed wide for Exeter before Jayden Stockley made it 2-0 in the 25th minute with a brilliant thumping finish on the half-turn from eight yards after a lovely passing move.
