New England coach Brad Friedel insisted his team would give its best effort in the season finale Sunday against Montreal, which needed a victory to keep its playoff hopes alive.
Midfielder Diego Fagundez and goalkeeper Matt Turner made sure Friedel kept his word.
Fagundez scored an unassisted goal in the 74th minute and Turner made four saves as the host Revolution ruined the Impact's playoff bid with a 1-0 victory in Foxborough, Mass.

The Montreal Impact's MLS playoff hopes are alive -- barely -- following a 2-0 win over visiting Toronto FC Sunday.
Montreal came into the game in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, four points back of D.C. United and five back of the Columbus Crew.
D.C. United clinched a playoff spot with a 3-1 win over New York City FC, but Columbus dropped a 2-1 game to Orlando, leaving the Crew with a two-point lead over the Impact heading into the final games of MLS' regular season.
