Vito Mannone has joined Minnesota United on a season-long loan.

Minnesota United announced on Sunday that it has signed goalkeeper Vito Mannone on a season-long loan from Championship club Reading.

The 30-year-old former Italy U21 international is expected to supplant Bobby Shuttleworth as the Loons' No. 1, and allow No. 7 overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and national champion at University of Maryland Dayne St. Clair to potentially go out on loan in search of first-team minutes.

Sporting Kansas City trades defender Ike Opara to Minnesota

Sporting Kansas City has traded former MLS Defender of the Year Ike Opara to Minnesota United for $900,000 in Targeted Allocation Money, which could reach $1 million if certain incentives are reached.

One source said that if Minnesota makes the playoffs, then the incentive will have been reached, adding to Sporting Kansas City's haul. The new playoff format approved by MLS for 2019 will see seven teams in each conference make the postseason.

Expansion side FC Cincinnati selected UCLA midfielder Frankie Amaya No. 1 overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft on Friday.

"This is what I worked my whole life for," Amaya told MLSSoccer.com at the draft in Chicago. "This is a crazy moment."

Amaya, 18, is the youngest player in the draft, but his upside is such that he's expected to adapt well to the professional game, even in a central playmaking role that is usually the domain of foreign players.

Minnesota United has picked up former Seattle Sounders captain Osvaldo Alonso off waivers, the club confirmed on Thursday.

Minnesota United announced on Thursday that it has signed Copenhagen midfielder and Slovakia international Jan Gregus to a designated player contract.
