Melbourne City have signed midfielder Stefan Mauk but are playing a waiting game on Socceroo James Troisi as the A-League club look to build a squad to challenge for the title.

That push might not include Anthony Caceres, however, who is reportedly hoping to move to the United Arab Emirates.

Thomas Sorensen confirms retirement from professional football

Thomas Sorensen has hung up his gloves but may not be lost to the A-League, as he considers a coaching role with Melbourne City.

The Danish goalkeeper announced his retirement on Monday after a decorated 24-year career, including more than a decade in the Premier League.

In his two seasons at City, Sorensen became a fan favourite.

He was named the A-League's goalkeeper of the year in his first campaign but was bizarrely overlooked in season two despite a series of howlers from first-choice custodian...

Asian Cup winner Ivan Franjic has left A-League club Melbourne City for a first stint in Asian football.

City have released the 29-year-old after two injury-plagued seasons to sign with Korean side Daegu FC.

He told the club's website he was eager for a new challenge.

"We know that the K-League is a high-level league," he said.

"I left Melbourne City to try myself out and to challenge myself. I will do my best to finish the season at the highest possible position of Daegu FC."

Scott Jamieson made 13 appearances for IFK Goteborg last season.

Former Socceroos defender Scott Jamieson has joined Melbourne City in his return to the A-League after a year-long stint in Europe.

The 28-year-old left Australia for Swedish giants IFK Goteborg after playing for Western Sydney in the Grand Final loss to Adelaide United last year.

He joins last year's FFA Cup winners City on a four-year deal.

Left-footed Jamieson, who has four Australian caps, made 13 appearances in Sweden's top-flight Allsvenskan.
