Shandong Luneng kept their hopes of a place in next year's AFC Champions League alive with a 3-1 win over Liaoning Whowin on Friday.

Diego Tardelli, Papiss Cisse and Jin Jingdao found the net for Felix Magath's side before Wang Hao claimed a late consolation for Liaoning.

The result all but ensures Liaoning, who are bottom of the standings, will drop down into the second division.

A draw or better for 14th-placed Tianjin Teda against Beijing Guoan on Sunday would confirm the club's relegation.

Andre Villas-Boas had to watch on as his Shanghai SIPG failed to beat struggling Liaoning Whowin.

Shanghai SIPG assistant coach Xie Hui all but conceded defeat in the fight for the Chinese Super League title on Saturday evening after seeing his side held to a 3-3 draw by bottom-of-the-table Liaoning Whowin.

Coach Andre Villas-Boas was forced to watch from the stands as his side were pegged back on twice by the 16th placed team in the league and SIPG are now six points adrift of league leaders Guangzhou Evergrande with only three games remaining.

CSL: Hulk, Wu Lei each score brace as Shanghai SIPG close gap with leaders

Hulk and Wu Lei scored twice as Shanghai SIPG crushed Shanghai Shenhua 6-1 on Saturday evening to close the gap on Chinese Super League leaders Guangzhou Evergrande to five points.

Carlos Tevez was on the scoresheet for Shenhua, who saw Gus Poyet resign from his position as head coach at the start of the week, but the Argentinian was unable to stop a rampant SIPG from notching up a convincing win.

After a goalless first half, three goals in four minutes just before the hour mark from Hulk, Wu and...

Shanghai SIPG slip further behind in Chinese Super League title race

Shanghai SIPG failed to win for a third game in a row as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Tianjin Quanjian that leaves them three points adrift of Chinese Super League leaders Guangzhou Evergrande.

Andre Villas-Boas' SIPG side went into the game needing a win to restore the one-point deficit that existed between the teams going into the weekend, but a failure to score against the third-placed side means Evergrande have extended their advantage at the summit.

"We are very close to Tianjin in the rankings,"...

Australia international James Holland joins LASK Linz on a free transfer

Adelaide United's James Holland
James Holland played for Adelaide United prior to his ill-fated stint in the Chinese Super League.

Fringe Socceroos midfielder James Holland has put his China troubles behind him, agreeing a return to the Austrian Bundesliga with recently-promoted LASK Linz.

Holland has been clubless since he and Socceroos attacker Robbie Kruse terminated their contracts with Chinese Super League side Liaoning Whowin last month due to unpaid wages.

Former Adelaide United man Holland made just one appearance in his four months at Liaoning, but now looks set for more game time in a familiar league where he's experienced...
