Alaves continued their upturn in fortunes under new boss Abelardo Fernandez to beat struggling Las Palmas 2-0 at Estadio Mendizorrotza and leapfrog them in the table.

The hosts came into Friday night's match looking for a second successive league win after coming from behind to defeat Girona in Abelardo's first match in charge, which put them a point ahead of bottom club Malaga.

Marco Asensio struck an instant classic as Real Madrid returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Las Palmas.

After back-to-back defeats at the hands of Girona and Tottenham, a much-needed success for Zinedine Zidane's side was topped and tailed by efforts from Casemiro and Isco.

Asensio's will linger longest in the memory, an inconceivably sweet half-volley which mixed rare precision with maximum power.

Three points still leaves Real eight points adrift of rivals and LaLiga leaders Barcelona...

Celso Borges brace boosts Depor by Las Palmas; Espanyol edge Real Betis

Strugglers Deportivo La Coruna and Espanyol both claimed important wins to pull away from the LaLiga relegation zone.

In Gran Canaria, Deportivo won 3-1 over a Las Palmas team who, despite their own lowly position in the table, beat the Galicians 4-1 in the Copa del Rey last week.

Former Chelsea striker Loic Remy put the islanders on the right track towards emulating that outcome when he fired Jonathan Viera's assist beyond Costel Pantilimon after only seven minutes.

However, goals either side of...
