Hamburg investor: I tied Andre Hahn transfer to U.S. star Bobby Wood

Brian McBride examines Christian Pulisic's prospects for 2017-18 and provides insight on Schalke youngster Weston McKennie.

Hamburg investor Klaus-Michael Kuhne has said he was only willing to provide funds for the transfer of Andre Hahn if the club kept U.S. international Bobby Wood.

Wood, 24, had been linked with clubs including Leicester City, West Ham and Borussia Dortmund before signing a new contract with Hamburg until 2021 in June, reportedly doubling his annual salary to around €3 million in the process.

Speaking to Sky, local billionaire Kuhne confirmed he played a role in Hamburg's dealings this summer,...

Hamburg's Nicolai Muller out for 7 months after celebration injury

Nicolai Muller Hamburg injured
Nicolai Muller faces seven months out on the sidelines.

Hamburg winger Nicolai Muller has been ruled out for seven months after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) -- while celebrating scoring a goal.

Muller scored an eighth-minute winner for his side in their 1-0 Bundesliga victory against Augsburg on Saturday.

However, after finding the back of the net, the 29-year-old fell to the ground awkwardly following a celebration that saw him spin around and jump into the air before tripping over the corner flag.

Muller was then forced to come off...

Hamburg SV, Augsburg crash out to minnows in DfB Pokal

Bobby Wood and Hamburg crashed out of the DFB-Pokal at the hands of 3.Liga side Osnabruck, who played 70 minutes with 10 men.

Even against 10 men from the third division, Hamburg SV couldn't get past the German Cup's first round.

VfL Osnabruck beat the Bundesliga side 3-1 on Sunday to repeat its 2009 feat, when it defeated Hamburg on penalties.

There was no need for penalties this time as Osnabruck -- which is yet to win after four games in the third division -- again spoiled Hamburg's start to the season.

The home team played with 10 men for more than 70 minutes after defender Marcel Appiah was sent off for a foul on Bobby...

Hamburg's Jann-Fiete Arp: It doesn't make any sense to join Chelsea at 17

Alexis Nunes and Paul Mariner sift through the latest transfer rumours, including Chelsea's interest in Danny Drinkwater.

Germany youth international Jann-Fiete Arp has said he chose to renew his contract at Hamburg rather than move abroad as it "doesn't make any sense to join Chelsea as a 17-year-old."

After scoring two hat tricks and another goal for Germany in five matches at the recent European Under-21 Championship, Arp reportedly caught the eye of clubs including Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus.

In June, however, the 17-year-old committed his future to Hamburg when signing a contract through to 2019.
