Real Madrid, Barcelona win heavily to maintain lock on La Liga title race

Alejandro Moreno believes Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos must balance their competitive fire and defensive responsibilities.

Five thoughts from the midweek action as Real Madrid and Barcelona both won heavily to maintain their head-to-head lock at the top of the La Liga table and things got clarified at the bottom.

1. Madrid's "second unit" dazzle again

Sunday's Clasico defeat made no difference to Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane's rotation policy, as he left Cristiano Ronaldo and Toni Kroos at home and made nine changes to his XI for Wednesday evening's potentially tricky trip to Deportivo La Coruna.

But not for the...

Tony Adams saw his Granada side slump to a third straight defeat.

Caretaker Granada coach Tony Adams has told his struggling team "to fight until the very end."

Adams saw Granada slump to a third straight defeat since he took over when Malaga beat them 2-0 at home on Tuesday.

The result left them seven points adrift of safety having played a game more than 17th-placed Leganes.

But Adams told the club's official website: "My job is to make them fight to the very end.

"If we do get relegated, it's still important for me to push the players to the very last moments....

Caretaker boss Tony Adams saw his Granada side pushed closer towards relegation from LaLiga following a 2-0 home defeat by Malaga.

Former England captain Adams had been parachuted into the dugout from his role as sporting director by Chinese owner Jiang Lizhang following a poor run under Lucas Alcaraz.

However, the 50-year-old has so far found it difficult to kickstart the fortunes of the team, who went into Tuesday night's match at Los Carmenes seven points adrift of safety on the back of successive...

Chelsea wonderkid Jeremie Boga commits to Ivory Coast

The Ivorian Football Federation have confirmed that Chelsea starlet Jeremie Boga and FC Mainz midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin have committed their international futures to the Elephants.

New coach Marc Wilmots is overseeing something of a recruitment drive since being appointed on March 21 as a replacement for Michel Dussuyer following the West Africans' miserable Nations Cup campaign.

Despite being tipped among the favourites for the continental showpiece in Gabon, the reigning champions fell at...

Tony Adams to offer Reo-Coker, Richardson summer Granada deals

Arsenal legend Tony Adams is enthusiastic about shaking things up at his new club Granada, as he aims to keep them in La Liga.

Granada head coach Tony Adams have revealed that former Premier League duo Nigel Reo-Coker and Kieran Richardson will be offered contracts in the summer.

The pair, who Adams brought in on trial, have been training since the former England captain took charge of the first team two weeks ago and have impressed enough to earn permanent deals.

However they will not be offered contracts immediately, with the club's financial situation preventing the LaLiga strugglers from signing them.

Adams told Sky...
