Sweet win for Jelle, Been

Jelle Vossen ensured Genk coach Mario Been was able to celebrate his 50th birthday with victory as Genk finished their Europa League Group G campaign with a 1-0 win at last-placed FC Thun.

Skipper Vossen scored the only goal after 31 minutes as Thun spurned plenty of chances to take something from the game.

Genk had already ensured they would finish top of the group before the trip to Switzerland and, with a trip to Jupiler Pro League leaders Standard Liege awaiting them on Sunday, Been made five changes...

All to play for in final fixtures

The Europa League group stages come to an end on Thursday with plenty still to play for across the 12 pools.

After five games some sides are already home and dry, but numerous issues remain unresolved elsewhere, most notably in Group A.

Valencia are through as group winners, but behind them Swansea and Kuban Krasnodar are thrashing it out for second.

The Swans are the current incumbents and if they go to St Gallen and match Kuban's result in Spain, they will progress.

If they lose, a win and three-goal...

Vienna see daylight after victory

Rapid Vienna boosted their hopes of making the Europa League knockout stage as they won for the first time in Group G thanks to a 2-1 success at home to FC Thun.

Goals from Terrence Boyd and Branko Boskovic helped move the Austrian side a point behind second-placed Dynamo Kiev.

The two teams meet in the final match in the group in Ukraine in two weeks' time.

Bottom side Thun, however, have no chance of progressing.

Bordeaux in need of win

Struggling Bordeaux are "obliged" to beat Eintracht Frankfurt in the pick of Thursday night's Europa League clashes, according to midfielder Ludovic Obraniak, but their dream of reaching the knockout stage could be taken out of their own hands regardless.

When the draw was made in August, Les Girondins looked like clear favourites to win Group F, yet they have instead won only one game and sit bottom of the standings, trailing both Maccabi Tel Aviv and APOEL while leaders Frankfurt are six points...
