Liverpool make experience count to take control, hold off Chelsea charge

After losing 2-1 to Liverpool, ESPN FC's Craig Burley says Chelsea's biggest problem so far this season is finding the back of the net.
League leaders Liverpool stay five points clear of Manchester City after the Reds held off Chelsea for a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

LONDON -- It pays to be on guard when Liverpool are preparing to take a set-piece.

Divock Origi's Champions League semifinal-deciding goal against Barcelona last season was the result of a quick-thinking corner by Trent Alexander-Arnold, and it was with similar dead-ball creativity that the European champions fooled Chelsea in a hard-fought 2-1 Premier League win at Stamford Bridge.

Both of Liverpool's goals were scored in the first half and both came from free kicks that saw back-heels change the...

VAR 'changes atmosphere' at matches - Lampard

After losing 2-1 to Liverpool, ESPN FC's Craig Burley says Chelsea's biggest problem so far this season is finding the back of the net.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said that Video Assistant Referee (VAR) "changes the atmosphere" of matches after his side saw a goal disallowed in their 2-1 loss to league leaders Liverpool on Sunday.

Down early against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, the Blues initally thought they had an equaliser from Cesar Azpilicueta but it was ruled out by VAR after Mason Mount was adjudged to be offside in the build-up.

Tammy Abraham 6/10, Kepa Arrizabalaga 7/10 as inspired Chelsea fall short vs. Liverpool

Tammy Abraham was a menace up front but Chelsea fell short in their bid to end Liverpool's winning run in the Premier League.

Chelsea are still yet to win at Stamford Bridge under Frank Lampard following another defeat on home soil. League leaders Liverpool left west London with all three points in a 2-1 win though but the Blues did have a real go after a rallying second-half performance.

In the end, Chelsea were left to rue a crucial miss and a disallowed goal in the first half when only a goal down. First Tammy Abraham missed a one-on-one against Adrian on 24 minutes before Cesar Azpilicueta's "equaliser" was ruled...

The upside of Chelsea's transfer ban: their youth movement finally gets to shine

It will happen at some point this season, possibly as early as November. Chelsea will play a game with seven homegrown players in their starting XI. Thus far, we've seen four: Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori at the back, Mason Mount in midfield, Tammy Abraham up front. With Mount doubtful for Sunday's clash with Liverpool, we'll probably see three but that is sure to change when Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi become available. (Loftus-Cheek is out until November,...
