CAF Champions League: Horoya hold Ahly, Setif down Wydad

Brave Horoya of Guinea held Egyptian giants Al Ahly to a 0-0 draw in their CAF Champions League quarter final first leg in Conakry on Friday night, denying the Egyptian giants opponents an away goal.

Played in hot and humid conditions, the pace of the game was slow and the first half almost completely devoid of chances.

CAF Champions League quarter-final draw: Horoya get Ahly, Tunisian derby

Guinean heavyweights Horoya AC have been 'rewarded' for their qualification from the CAF Champions League group stage with an ominous double-header against African giants Al-Ahly in Monday's quarter-final draw.

Horoya eliminated 2016 champions Mamelodi Sundowns to advance to the final eight for the first time, but they'll have their work cut out against an Ahly side who have won Africa's premier club competition on eight occasions.

Ahly initially struggled during their group-stage campaign, taking...

Horoya coach Zvunka hails CAF Champions League progression

Victor Zvunka hailed Horoya's qualification for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League as the culmination of years of work and steady progress as the club from Conakry rekindled old glories on Tuesday night.

Horoya upset the odds to hold 2016 Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa to a goalless draw in Atteridgeville, on the outskirts of Pretoria, and finish above their hosts in the Group C standings.

They now await to see their next opponent but by finishing behind holders...

Sundowns dumped out of Champions League after Horoya draw

The final three quarterfinal places in this year's CAF Champions League were decided on Tuesday, with South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns the big casualties as they missed out on the knockout stages.

Sundowns were held 0-0 at home by Guinea side Horoya, and with just a single victory in their six Group C games, the 2016 champions end a dismal continental campaign.

In truth, they created little in the game and stretched their barren run in front of goal to almost seven hours.

The best chance of...
