Bolivian referee dies after collapsing on pitch

Referee Victor Hugo Hurtado was surrounded by players and team doctors after collapsing on the pitch but later died in hospital.

A 31-year-old referee collapsed during a Bolivian league match high up in the Andes and died after being taken to the hospital.

The match between the Always Ready and Oriente Petrolero clubs was played at Municipal Stadium in El Alto, which sits about 3,900 meters (12,795 feet) above sea level.

The game was at the 47th minute when referee Victor Hugo Hurtado toppled backward and collapsed on the pitch. Players and team doctors rushed to his side and after a few minutes Hurtado was put in an ambulance...

Jorge Wilstermann striker Serginho walked off the pitch after he says he was subjected to racist abuse during a Bolivian Primera Division game.

Brazilian striker Serginho has condemned fans who subjected him to racist chanting during a Bolivian Primera Division match between his side, Jorge Wilstermann, and Blooming.

He walked off the field last Sunday with Wilstermann losing 2-0 at the time.

The 34-year-old said on Thursday that he was abused from the prematch warm-up, and that he preferred to leave the field because his family were watching the game.

Thiago dos Santos to leave Nacional Potosi after pushing coach, says club

Brazilian striker Thiago dos Santos will no longer play for Bolivian side Nacional Potosi after pushing his own coach in an angry response to being substituted during a game on Tuesday night.

Video images show Dos Santos' violent response to being replaced in the 34th minute of the match against Sport Boys.

The 33-year-old had to be restrained by teammates as he aggressively moved towards his Argentine coach, Edgardo Malvestiti.

Bolivian Apertura, national team bring 2016 to an end in entertaining fashion

Mauricio Soria is back with the Bolivian national team after a stint with the Strongest and some drama.

Bolivar ended up having special reason to lament Wednesday's stoppage time madness.

All they had needed to do was avoid defeat away to Sport Boys Warnes to claim the 2016 Bolivian Apertura league title. They were being chased by their great La Paz rivals, The Strongest, who after a nervy first half had blasted their way to a 7-2 win against San Jose.
