The latest transfer rumours from around the world.
The latest transfer rumours from around the world.

Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the whisper.

Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Lionel Messi to Manchester City

Fresh from scoring a hat trick to send Argentina to the World Cup, Messi has again been named as a Manchester City target with the club linked with a world-record move £357million move. The Barcelona star, whose contract renewal at the Camp Nou is still not signed, is wanted by City manager Pep Guardiola, according to the Daily Star. Barcelona have been adamant Messi will sign a new deal, but City are looking to pounce while the player is still weighing up his options.

Gary Hooper to Brighton

Brighton are considering a move for Crystal Palace target Hooper. The Sheffield Wednesday striker has been in fine form this season, scoring eight times in all competitions. According to The Sun, Palace are favourites to land Hooper but Brighton retain an interest with Chris Hughton keen to bolster his attacking options when the transfer window reopens in January. West Brom are also interested in the 29-year-old.

Luka Modric to Tottenham

Real Madrid are willing to offer Modric as a makeweight in an audacious attempt to prise Harry Kane away from Tottenham. The Premier League club are adamant tat Kane is not for sale at any price but Real are also open to including former Spurs star Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in any potential deal. Kane is one of the most devastating strikers in world football, having ended September with 13 goals in eight games for club and country. The 24-year-old was also nominated for the Ballon d'Or this week.

Olivier Giroud to Juventus

Arsenal striker Giroud has emerged as a surprise Juventus target. The Frenchman, who was the subject of Everton rumours in the summer, has fallen down the pecking order under Arsene Wenger following the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette. Although Giroud decided to stay at the Emirates and fight for his place, he has found starting opportunities hard to come by and the 31-year-old may seek a move away to guarantee his place in the France team for next year's World Cup.

Hirving Lozano to Arsenal

While Giroud may be heading for the Emirates exit door, PSV Eindhoven's rising star Lozano could be travelling in the opposite direction. The Gunners sent chief scout Steve Rowley to watch the winger after a blistering start to his Eredivisie career, scoring six times in eight appearances following a switch from Pachuca. The 22-year-old Mexican, who helped his country qualify for the World Cup, is being touted as a potential replacement for Manchester City target Alexis Sanchez.
