Football Federation Australia to close soccer's Centre of Excellence

FFA chief executive David Gallop believes that resources can be better used in a decentralised and expanded system.

Football Federation Australia is closing its Canberra-based Centre of Excellence, with hopes A-League clubs can fill the breach for player development.

Socceroos Mark Viduka, Ned Zelic, John Aloisi, Carl Valeri and Lucas Neill -- among many others -- forged storied careers after spending time at the AIS-linked centre.

The program will end in August of this year, ending the AUS$1.6 million annual investment.

FFA chief executive David Gallop says the centre had "served Australian football well over...

Fahid Ben Khalfallah set to leave Melbourne Victory

Fahid Ben Khalfallah
Tunisia international Fahid Ben Khalfallah has made 74 appearances for the Victory, scoring 12 goals.

Melbourne Victory's Tunisian attacker Fahid Ben Khalfallah will depart the A-League club at season's end.

Ben Khalfallah, 34, won the club's player of the year award in Victory's 2014-15 double-winning side.

Ahead of Sunday's semifinal with Brisbane Roar -- potentially his last match for the Victory -- Ben Khalfallah confirmed he would be moving on.

Wellington Phoenix rules Stuart Pearce out of the running for head coach job

Stuart Pearce
Stuart Pearce last held a managerial job at Nottingham Forest in 2015.

Wellington Phoenix have hosed down reports they are considering former England international Stuart Pearce as their new head coach.

The club released a short statement saying it is "flattered by the calibre" of some of the coaches linked to the vacant A-League position but won't comment on media speculation.

Chairman David Dome told Newstalk ZB the Phoenix had received a CV from the representatives...

Melbourne Victory have no worries about midfield depth - Carl Valeri

A goal in either half could not separate Brisbane and Western Sydney, as the Roar prevailed 6-5 on penalties.

Melbourne Victory skipper Carl Valeri is confident a lack of midfield depth won't haunt the A-League title hopefuls during the finals series.

An assessment of Victory's squad leading into Sunday's crunch semifinal with Brisbane Roar suggests there's no room for injury or illness among the club's midfielders.

A defensive trio of Alan Baro, Nick Ansell and James Donachie have shared centre-back duties all season, with Leigh Broxham providing support for first-choice full backs Jason Geria and Daniel...

John Aloisi blasts FFA ahead of Brisbane ACL match at Muang Thong

Adelaide United find a late equaliser in an epic battle with Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League.
Adelaide's Ben Garuccio gave away a reckless penalty, but it was Yasuhito Endo who's missed penalty stole the show.
Muang Thong and Brisbane ACL press conference
John Aloisi says that FFA's scheduling makes it almost impossible for Brisbane to perform at their best in Asia.

Brisbane Roar boss John Aloisi slammed Football Federation Australia (FFA) for the scheduling that has left them with a weakened team for the AFC Champions League (ACL) clash with Muang Thong United on Wednesday.

The Australian side overcame Western Sydney Wanderers after extra time and a penalty shootout in the A-League elimination final on Friday. This result saw them through to the semifinal at Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
